The Way Taken is a book of poems. Instead of a travelogue Dave has gathered together his poems from his first mountaineering expedition to China with some colour photographs as illustrations. Dave has also added a few Chinese symbols which are explained in a glossary at the back of the book.

The book has 23 poems, 10 colour photographs and is 42 pages long.
